India has been the most successful nation in kabaddi since the sport became part of the Asian Games. Over the years, the country has dominated both the men’s and women’s competitions, building an unmatched legacy on the continental stage. So, how many gold medals has India won in kabaddi at the Asian Games?

The answer is: 11 gold medals. India has captured eight gold medals in the men’s event and three gold medals in the women’s event, making it the most successful country in the history of Asian Games kabaddi.

India Asian Games Kabaddi Gold Medals

The India Asian Games kabaddi gold medals tally stands at 11 across both categories.

In the men’s competition, India have participated in all nine editions since kabaddi became a medal event in 1990. They have won eight gold medals and one bronze medal.

In the women’s event, which was introduced at the 2010 Asian Games, India have competed in four editions. They have claimed three gold medals and one silver medal.

Overall, India have won 11 golds, one silver, and one bronze from 13 appearances across the men’s and women’s events.

India’s Dominance in Men’s Kabaddi

India’s kabaddi Asian Games record in the men’s competition is remarkable.

India won the first-ever men’s kabaddi gold medal at the 1990 Beijing Asian Games. They continued their dominance by winning consecutive titles in 1994 Hiroshima, 1998 Bangkok, 2002 Busan, 2006 Doha, 2010 Guangzhou, and 2014 Incheon.

This incredible run gave India a historic streak of seven straight gold medals.

The only setback came at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games, where India lost to Iran in the semi-finals and had to settle for the bronze medal.

However, India bounced back strongly at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, held in 2023, defeating Iran 33–29 in a thrilling final to reclaim the gold medal.

Success in Women’s Kabaddi

India’s kabaddi medal history is equally impressive in the women’s competition.

Women’s kabaddi made its Asian Games debut in 2010 Guangzhou, and India immediately won the inaugural gold medal by defeating Thailand 28–14 in the final.

India successfully defended the title at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, beating Iran 31–21.

Their only disappointment came in 2018 Jakarta, where they lost to Iran 24–27 in the final and earned the silver medal.

The team returned to the top in 2022 Hangzhou, edging Chinese Taipei 26–25 in a dramatic final to secure their third women’s gold medal.

A Historic Legacy

One of the biggest moments in the India kabaddi Asian Games record came in 2018 when Iran ended India’s long period of dominance by winning both the men’s and women’s titles.

However, India responded brilliantly in the next edition by winning both gold medals once again, proving their strength in Asian kabaddi.

India’s Asian Games kabaddi gold medals tally of 11 highlights the country’s remarkable consistency and excellence. No other nation has matched India’s success in the sport at the Asian Games.

As kabaddi continues to grow across Asia and around the world, India’s kabaddi medal mistory remains the benchmark for excellence. With eight men’s gold medals and three women’s gold medals, India has firmly established itself as the most successful kabaddi nation in Asian Games history, and future generations will aim to add even more titles to this outstanding record.
