The two-day “My Youth My Pride” Wushu and Kabaddi Championship concluded successfully at the Indoor Stadium Handwara in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district. The event brought together young athletes from across the region and highlighted the growing popularity of kabaddi and other indoor sports among local youth.

Organized under the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council’s “My Youth My Pride” initiative, the championship aimed to promote fitness, sportsmanship, and grassroots talent development. The successful completion of the event marked another important step in encouraging young players to participate in competitive sports.

Handwara Kabaddi Championship Promotes Grassroots Talent

The Handwara kabaddi championship witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 120 boys and girls, who competed in both kabaddi and Wushu over two days.

The event provided a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills while gaining valuable competitive experience. Along with exciting matches, participants also had the opportunity to interact with experienced coaches and sports officials who encouraged them to continue pursuing their sporting ambitions.

The championship reflected the growing efforts being made across Jammu and Kashmir to identify and nurture young sporting talent at the district level.

Closing Ceremony Honours Young Athletes

The closing ceremony of the Handwara kabaddi championship was attended by several prominent officials associated with sports development in the region.

Ajaz Hassan, Incharge of Indoor Stadium Handwara, attended as the Guest of Honour and distributed medals and participation certificates to the winning athletes. He congratulated all participants for their dedication and encouraged them to continue working hard in their chosen sports.

Showket, Incharge Baramulla, attended the event as the Chief Guest and appreciated the efforts of the organizers in providing young athletes with quality competitive opportunities.

Also present were Nahida Nabi, Khelo India Kabaddi Coach, and Farooq Ahmed, Incharge Kulangam, Kupwara. Both officials interacted with the players, shared valuable guidance, and motivated them to continue developing their skills through regular training and competition.

Indoor Stadium Handwara Emerging as a Sports Hub

The Indoor Stadium Handwara has become one of the leading centres for indoor sports in North Kashmir.

Located in Kupwara district, the stadium regularly hosts coaching camps, district level tournaments, and youth sporting events across multiple disciplines. Apart from kabaddi, the venue also supports sports such as Wushu, badminton, volleyball, and basketball.

The stadium has played an important role in strengthening grassroots sports by providing young athletes with modern facilities and opportunities to compete in organized events.

Programs conducted at the venue have become an important part of the region’s sports development strategy, helping identify talented players who may go on to represent the district and state in future competitions.

“My Youth My Pride” Initiative Continues to Inspire

The Handwara kabaddi championship was organized under the “My Youth My Pride” campaign, an initiative of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council that focuses on promoting youth participation in sports and healthy lifestyles.

Through events like this, the program aims to encourage children and young adults to stay active while building confidence, discipline, and teamwork through sport.

The initiative has already helped organize several competitions and coaching camps across the Union Territory, giving aspiring athletes greater opportunities to showcase their talent.

With strong participation, enthusiastic support from officials, and competitive matches throughout the tournament, the Indoor Stadium Handwara once again proved its importance as a centre for grassroots sports development. The successful conclusion of the championship is expected to inspire even more young athletes to take up kabaddi and other indoor sports in the region, strengthening the future of sports in Jammu and Kashmir.
