The My Youth My Pride Wushu and Kabaddi Championship successfully concluded its two day competition at the Indoor Stadium Handwara in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on July 29, 2026. Organised under the guidance of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, the championship brought together 120 young athletes from across the region to compete in Wushu and Kabaddi across different age groups and weight categories.

The event marked another important step in promoting grassroots sports and encouraging young athletes to pursue fitness and competitive excellence. The Handwara kabaddi championship also highlighted the growing interest in indigenous and combat sports among the youth of the region.

Young Athletes Shine at the Championship

The Wushu and Kabaddi Championship attracted boys and girls from different parts of Kupwara, including several participants from remote and border areas. The tournament provided them with an opportunity to compete on a recognised platform while showcasing their talent before coaches, officials, and spectators.

Competitions in both Wushu and Kabaddi were held across multiple categories, allowing athletes of different age groups to participate. The event reflected the increasing focus on developing sports at the grassroots level in Jammu and Kashmir.

Young competitors displayed determination, discipline, and teamwork throughout the championship, making the event a memorable experience for everyone involved.

Dignitaries Encourage the Participants

The championship was inaugurated in the presence of several distinguished guests who encouraged the athletes to continue pursuing sports.

Showket, Incharge Baramulla, attended the event as the Chief Guest. Ajaz Hassan, Incharge Indoor Stadium Handwara, was the Guest of Honour, while Nahida Nabi, Khelo India Kabaddi Coach, was also present to motivate the participants.

The dignitaries praised the enthusiasm shown by the young athletes and highlighted the importance of regular sporting events in helping youth develop confidence, discipline, and leadership skills.

Promoting Sports and Healthy Living

The championship was organised under the My Youth My Pride initiative, which aims to inspire young people to adopt healthy lifestyles through sports and physical activity.

Apart from identifying talented athletes, the programme also seeks to strengthen community participation in sports while encouraging teamwork and fair play. Events like the Handwara kabaddi championship provide young players with valuable competitive experience and motivate them to continue improving their skills.

The initiative also plays an important role in creating positive opportunities for youth, especially in rural and border regions where access to organised sporting events may be limited.

Closing Ceremony and Prize Distribution

The tournament concluded with a prize distribution ceremony celebrating the achievements of the participants.

Ajaz Hassan presented medals and merit certificates to the winning teams and outstanding individual performers. The ceremony recognised the hard work and dedication shown by the athletes throughout the two day event.

Parents, coaches, and local sports enthusiasts also attended the closing programme, applauding the efforts of the participants and organisers in making the championship a success.

A Positive Boost for Sports in Handwara

The Handwara sports news from this championship reflects the growing commitment to developing young sporting talent in Jammu and Kashmir. By bringing together 120 athletes under one roof, the Wushu and Kabaddi Championship created an encouraging environment where young players could learn, compete, and gain confidence.

With continued support from the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council and initiatives such as My Youth My Pride, grassroots competitions like the Handwara kabaddi championship are expected to play an important role in discovering future champions while promoting fitness, discipline, and community spirit across the region.
