The Directorate of Sports and Physical Education at the University of Jammu organised the Inter Collegiate Gatka Men Championship and began the Inter Collegiate Kabaddi Women Tournament for the 2026 to 27 session. The events were held at the Gymnasium Hall of the University of Jammu on September 1. The competitions brought together students from several colleges and departments, giving young athletes an opportunity to compete at the university level.

The Gatka championship featured individual and team events, while the women’s Kabaddi tournament began with several competitive matches. PG Department Wins Overall Gatka Championship
The PG Department of the University of Jammu emerged as the overall champion in Gatka after collecting 20 points. The department produced strong performances in both individual and team competitions and finished at the top of the overall standings.
In the Fari Soti Individual event, Sehajveer Singh of the PG Department won the gold medal. Sarabjeet Singh of GDC R.S. Pura took silver, while Maninder Singh of MBS College and Adhiraj Singh of GDC Kunjwani secured the two bronze medals.
In the Single Soti Individual event, Rajveer Singh of Dogra Degree College won gold. Kanavjot Singh of GDC Kathua claimed silver, while Jashanpreet Singh of Bhargwa Degree Samba and Harbhajan Singh of GDC Nowshera took bronze.
Strong Team Performances in Gatka
The Fari Soti Team event saw the PG Department of JU take the gold medal with Onkar Singh, Sarabjot Singh and Sehajveer Singh. GDC Samba finished second with Lakhvinder Singh, Mandeep Singh and Roopinder Singh.
GDC R.S. Pura secured the first bronze medal, while GDC Kunjwani took the second bronze. The results showed the strength and depth of Gatka talent among participating colleges.
In the Single Soti Team event, GDC Kathua won gold with Kanavjot Singh, Dilpreet Singh, Manpreet Singh and Diljeet Singh. Dogra Degree College took silver, while GDC Kunjwani and GDC Nowshera secured the two bronze medals.
Women’s Kabaddi Tournament Begins
The Jammu University Inter Collegiate Kabaddi Championship also got underway with several matches producing clear results. Trikuta College of Physical Education defeated GCW Bhagwati Nagar 16-4 in one of the opening fixtures.
GCW Udhampur recorded a 30-15 victory over GDC Bhaderwah. In another match, GCW Kathua defeated GDC Basholi 26 8, setting the tone for an exciting women’s Kabaddi competition.
The opening results suggest that the tournament will provide plenty of competition as the participating colleges continue their campaigns. The event also gives young players valuable experience in a competitive environment.
