In a significant achievement for Punjab’s sporting community, 25-year-old Simran Kamboj from Panjawa village, Muktsar, has been named as a key raider for the Indian women’s kabaddi squad. She will compete in the 6th Asian Beach Games, scheduled to take place in Sanya, China, from April 22 to 27, 2026.
Simran holds the distinction of being the only athlete from Punjab selected for the national team. She joins a talented roster of players from across the country as they aim for continental glory.

The team features a strong mix of talent from India’s traditional kabaddi heartlands:
- Punjab: Simran Kamboj
- Haryana: Ritu, Manisha Kumari, and Nikita

A Journey of Resilience
Simran’s path to the national colors has been defined by family support and physical perseverance. Initially encouraged by her father, Sukhpal Chand, and mentored by her uncle, Amarjit Singh, she transformed a casual school interest into a professional career.
Her journey has not been without setbacks. Simran previously missed an international opportunity due to a severe elbow injury that required surgery. Despite multiple injuries throughout her career, her track record remains impressive:

Training and Preparation
Currently training at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) center in Dharamsala, Simran credits her disciplined environment for her readiness. With no prior sporting background in her family—aside from her grandfather’s service as an Army subedar—her selection has become a point of immense pride for her village.
Simran is scheduled to depart for China from Delhi tomorrow, carrying the hopes of her community and the nation as she targets a podium finish in Sanya.
