In a notable tribute to one of India’s most distinguished kabaddi figures, the newly constructed indoor stadium at Air Force Station Bagdogra has been officially named after Arjuna Awardee and Bhim Awardee, Master Warrant Officer (Retd.) Ram Meher Singh. The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior Air Force officials, who acknowledged his remarkable contributions to both Indian kabaddi and the Indian Air Force.
Ram Meher Singh’s illustrious career features several major achievements at the international level. He captained India to gold medals at the Asian Games in 1998 and 2002, secured Asian Kabaddi Championship gold in 2001, and earned two SAF Games gold medals. He later served as Head Coach of the Indian team at the 2018 Asian Games.
In the professional arena, he also made a significant mark by guiding Patna Pirates to three Pro Kabaddi League titles as head coach, establishing himself as one of the most successful figures in the league’s history.
Currently working as Deputy Director (Sports), Haryana, Ram Meher Singh continues to contribute to the development of sports in India. The naming of the “Ram Meher Singh Indoor Stadium” reflects his leadership, achievements, and long-standing dedication to kabaddi, serving as a lasting source of inspiration for future generations.
