The 52nd Manipur State Junior Girls Kabaddi Championship got off to an exciting start as SEDO and SYLO registered impressive victories on the opening day of the tournament. The three-day event is being held at the SEDO Playground in Nongmaikhong Mayai Leikai, Kakching district, and has brought together some of the best young kabaddi talent from across the state.
Organized by the Manipur State Kabaddi Association, the championship features nine teams competing for the prestigious junior girls’ title. The tournament is expected to provide an important platform for identifying and developing future stars of Manipur kabaddi.
SEDO Kabaddi Team Dominates Opening Match
The opening fixture of the Manipur Junior Girls Kabaddi Championship saw hosts SEDO kabaddi take on YGCfrom Chingmei in a Pool A clash.
Playing in front of their home supporters, SEDO produced a commanding performance to defeat YGC 53-22. The hosts established control early in the match with sharp raids and disciplined defending, building a healthy lead before halftime.
SEDO continued to dominate in the second half, maintaining the intensity in both attack and defense. Their all-round display ensured a convincing 31-point victory, making them one of the early favorites in the competition.
The impressive result also placed SEDO kabaddi in a strong position in Pool A as they aim to qualify for the knockout stage.
SYLO Kabaddi Makes Winning Start
The second match of the day in Pool B featured SYLO kabaddi from Tekcham against HCKL of Lairok Morokthabi.
SYLO produced another dominant display, defeating HCKL 52-26 to begin their campaign in style.
The Tekcham based side controlled the game throughout with consistent raiding and well organized defensive efforts. They gradually increased their advantage and never allowed HCKL to mount a comeback.
The comfortable 26 point victory ensured SYLO kabaddi finished the opening day at the top of Pool B and strengthened their chances of reaching the semifinals.
Tournament Format
The Manipur kabaddi tournament has been divided into two pools featuring a total of nine teams.
Pool A consists of SEDO, YGC, VETO, and NYDA.
Pool B includes SYLO, HCKL, UPS, KSWC, and NAYA.
Each team will compete in a round robin league format within its respective group. The top two teams from each pool will qualify for the semifinals, with the winners advancing to the championship final.
The format is expected to produce several closely contested matches over the next two days as teams compete for a place in the knockout rounds.
