A viral Instagram video from Punjab has captured a touching scene of a mother celebrating her son’s athletic success through an ancient cultural practice. After being named the “Best Raider” in a local Kabaddi match, the young champion was greeted at his doorstep with the “Teil Chona” ritual. This tradition, typically performed by a mother or female elder, involves applying oil to the doorframes to bless a returning loved one and protect the home from misfortune.

The footage shows the teenager arriving on his bicycle, having proudly placed his championship trophy right at the entrance of his family home. As his mother carefully poured oil on both sides of the doorway, the boy beamed with joy, flashing a victory sign to those filming. His winnings reportedly included more than just the silverware:

  • A decorative championship trophy placed at the center of the threshold.
  • A new television set, a common high-value prize in regional sports, carried by a friend.
  • Public recognition as the top offensive player (Raider) of the tournament.

Internet users were deeply moved by the display of maternal pride and humble success, with many commenters offering the prayer, “Waheguru ji mehar kare,” asking for continued divine blessings on the family. The scene highlighted the deep cultural roots of Kabaddi in Punjab, where a village-level victory is treated as a major milestone for the entire community.

This celebration marks a significant moment for the family, representing the culmination of long hours of training and personal sacrifice. The genuine happiness shared between the mother and son served as a powerful reminder of how traditional customs continue to honor modern achievements.
