The Indian kabaddi circuit is expanding its reach with the launch of the JBC Kabaddi League (Jharkhand–Bihar–Chhattisgarh Kabaddi League). Sanctioned by the state associations of Jharkhand, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh—all affiliated with the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI)—this new regional powerhouse is set to debut in the first half of 2026.
The league aims to tap into the deep-rooted kabaddi culture of eastern India, transforming school-level and village talents into professional athletes through a structured tournament format.
League Structure & Format
The inaugural season is designed to replicate the professional standard of national leagues like the PKL:
- Total Teams: 5 franchises representing the three states.
- Player Selection: A comprehensive scouting program will identify raw talent from grassroots levels.
- Player Auction: Following scouting, players will go under the hammer in a televised auction to build team rosters.
- Tentative Schedule: Matches are expected to commence in March 2026, with Jharkhand likely to host the primary leg of the competition.
Leadership & Vision
The league is spearheaded by prominent figures in the Indian sporting ecosystem:
- Promoter: Rannvijay Singh, a seasoned sports entrepreneur known for his work with the Bhojpuri Industry Premier League (BIPL) and the Awadh Ramdoots (UPKL).
- Brand Ambassador: Randhir Singh Sehrawat, the legendary “Coach Saab.” An Arjuna Awardee with over 90 medals to his name, Sehrawat brings decades of elite experience to mentor the next generation.
Why the JBC League Matters
For decades, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh have been fertile grounds for kabaddi, yet athletes often lacked a direct path to the professional limelight.
- Mainstream Career Path: The league provides a “viable career choice” for local youth, as stated by director Rannvijay Singh.
- Infrastructure Growth: By professionalizing the regional game, the league encourages investment in local mats, stadiums, and training academies.
- Talent Pipeline: Standout performers in the JBC League will likely be fast-tracked into the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) auctions and national camps.
