A Mixed Outcome for India in Sanya

The beach kabaddi competition at the 2026 Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China delivered both celebration and disappointment for India. While the women’s team continued their incredible dominance by winning another gold medal, the men’s team fell short in the final and had to settle for silver.

The contrast between the two campaigns has sparked discussion about the strengths and weaknesses of Indian kabaddi. A closer look at the India kabaddi Sanya performance shows why the women succeeded and where the men struggled.

India Women Continue Their Golden Legacy

The biggest positive from the tournament was the outstanding display by the India women’s team. Led by captain Ritu, the squad remained unbeaten throughout the competition and secured their sixth consecutive Asian Beach Games title.

In the gold medal match, India defeated Sri Lanka 47 to 31. Although the score was close at halftime with India leading 20 to 18, the team produced a dominant second half performance.

One of the key reasons behind the India kabaddi gold medal women success was their patience and discipline. Instead of rushing their attacks, the players remained calm and focused. They gradually wore down the Sri Lankan side and took complete control of the match.

The team also showed excellent fitness levels. Playing on sand can be physically demanding, but India looked stronger as the game progressed. Their preparation and conditioning allowed them to maintain intensity while their opponents struggled to keep up.

India Men Fall Short in the Final

The story was very different for the men’s team. Although they reached the final with impressive victories over Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan, they were unable to overcome Iran in the title clash.

The final ended with a 44 to 31 victory for Iran. This result is the focus of India men kabaddi silver medal analysis.

The biggest problem for India was their slow start. They trailed 11 to 23 at halftime and never managed to recover. Against a strong team like Iran, such a large deficit was always going to be difficult to overcome.

Iran’s defenders dominated the contest and prevented India’s raiders from making a significant impact. The early pressure forced India onto the back foot from the opening stages of the match.

Where Did the Men Go Wrong?

A major issue was the team’s inability to change their approach when things were not going their way. Iran successfully stopped India’s main attacking plans, but India struggled to find an alternative strategy.

The physical strength of the Iranian players also made a difference. On sand, strength and balance become even more important, and Iran used these advantages effectively.

While India had looked excellent in their semi-final victory over Pakistan, they could not reproduce the same level of performance in the final.

Important Lessons for the Future

The overall India kabaddi performance in Sanya provides valuable lessons ahead of future tournaments.

The women’s team proved that strong preparation, fitness, and adaptability can lead to continued success. Their unbeaten campaign once again confirmed their position as the leading force in beach kabaddi.

For the men, the silver medal highlights areas that need improvement. Slow starts, difficulty handling strong defensive pressure, and a lack of alternative tactics remain their concerns.

If these issues are addressed, India will have a stronger chance of returning to the top in future international competitions. Sanya showed that while the women remain the benchmark, the men still have work to do to reclaim continental dominance.
