The professional kabaddi landscape in Nepal has reached a new milestone with the official announcement of franchise owners for the upcoming second season of the Nepal Kabaddi League (NKL). During a prestigious launch event held at the Hotel Yak & Yeti in Kathmandu, the organizing body, Astronix Management, introduced the corporate backers for the six competing squads. This transition highlights a growing trend of major business houses investing in traditional sports to elevate them to an international competitive standard.

The league features a mix of returning champions and rebranded entities designed to increase fan engagement. Notably, the Biratnagar franchise has transitioned from the “Bandits” to the “Biratnagar Bahubali” under the new leadership of National Investment Holding. In contrast, the Janakpur Knights have retained their original ownership, providing a sense of continuity for the reigning champions as they prepare to defend their title.

The confirmed lineup of teams and their respective owners includes:

  1. Biratnagar Bahubali: National Investment Holding Pvt. Ltd. (led by Bhawani Rana).
  2. Janakpur Knights: Neco Insurance Limited.
  3. Kathmandu Mavericks: Kathmandu Mavericks Pvt. Ltd.
  4. Pokhara Lakers: Fewa Construction Pvt. Ltd.
  5. Butwal Bulls: Morai Corporation Pvt. Ltd. (formerly known as Himalayan Raiders).
  6. Dhading Wildcat: Dhading Wildcat Pvt. Ltd.

Amitkumar Begani, the head of Astronix Management, shared his optimism regarding the infusion of corporate interest, noting that such partnerships are vital for the league’s growth. He remarked that after the success of the inaugural edition, the goal is now to establish Nepali kabaddi as a premier global product. The ceremony was further dignified by the attendance of the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Nepal, Ruwanthi Delpitiya, and senior officials from the All Nepal Kabaddi Association.

The tournament is scheduled to kick off on June 5, 2026 (Jestha 22), bringing a month of high-intensity raids and tackles to the capital. Preparation is already in full swing, with domestic player selections finalized and a massive pool of over 100 international athletes from 15 different countries registered for the draft. Fans across the country will be able to follow the action in high definition, as Kantipur Max TV HD has been secured as the official broadcast partner for the season.
