The Nepal women’s kabaddi team has started its preparations for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with an intensive training camp in Haryana, India. After making history by winning a bronze medal on their Asian Games debut in Hangzhou, Nepal will now aim to build on that success and challenge the continent’s strongest teams once again.
The month-long Nepal kabaddi training camp is expected to play a key role in helping the players improve their fitness, tactics, and match readiness ahead of the prestigious continental event.
Nepal Kabaddi Training Camp Underway in Haryana
The Nepal kabaddi training camp is being held at the Vibrant International School and Kabaddi Academy in Haryana, one of India’s well-known centers for kabaddi development.
The camp focuses on physical conditioning, technical improvement, and tactical preparation as the players gear up for the Asian Games. Training in India will also allow the Nepal squad to compete against stronger opposition and gain valuable experience before the tournament begins.
Following the Haryana camp, the team will continue its exposure tour by playing several practice matches against local teams in Jaipur and Uttar Pradesh.
The squad is expected to remain in India until mid September before travelling directly to Japan for the Asian Games.
Nepal’s men’s national kabaddi team is also undergoing a similar preparation program in India as both squads aim to perform strongly at the continental event.
Experienced Squad Returns
The Nepal women’s kabaddi team will once again be led by captain Manmati Bisht, one of the experienced players from the bronze medal winning squad at the previous Asian Games.
Several players from that historic campaign have retained their places in the team, including Jayanti Badu, Ravina Chaudhary, Menuka Kumari Rajbanshi, Mina Nepali, Khim Maya Khatri, Ganga Ghimire, Sirjana Kumari Tharu, Nanu Maya Parajuli, Binita Pandit Chhetri, and Ashma Yadav.
However, the team will miss Anuja Kulung Rai, who has been ruled out due to technical and medical reasons. The All Nepal Kabaddi Association (ANKA) is expected to announce her replacement before the team leaves for Japan.
The coaching staff includes head coach Parvati Rai, coach Lok Bahadur Bisht, and team manager Sharad Darshandhari, who will oversee the squad’s preparations throughout the tour.
Challenging Asian Games Draw
The Nepal women Asian Games campaign will begin in Group B, where they will face Chinese Taipei, Thailand, and Sri Lanka.
Chinese Taipei enter the tournament as one of the strongest teams after finishing as runners-up in the previous edition, making them Nepal’s toughest opponent in the group stage.
Meanwhile, Group A features defending champions India, along with Iran, Japan, and Bangladesh, setting up another highly competitive women’s kabaddi tournament.
